Ski resort Cortina D’Ampezzo
Cortina is a wonderful resort in the heart of the Dolomites with the most dramatic scenery. There is a good quantity of well-maintained slopes; marvellous nursery slopes, good long runs for intermediates and access to the vast Dolomiti Ski Pass area.
Cortina was the home of the first Winter Olympics in Italy and today is still the host of many international ski events, because of its superbly maintained piste, reliable snow record and bright yet relaxed atmosphere. Crowned by marvellous peaks, like the Cristallto and the Tofane, Cortina is situated over the basin with the same name at an altitude of 1224 m and may be accessed from any direction by making a cross walk through magnificent mountain passes such as Giau, the Tre Croci and the Falzareg. In the summer the mountains acquire not the gray colours of rocks but red and orange, offering countless possibilities for walking with 56 mountain refuges and 300 km of paths for mountaineers and hikers. There is a ring of peaks that surround the ski resort. The rocks of the Cristallo group limit the north end of Cotina d’Ampezzo. There are also the Tofana Mountains with the three magnificent peaks that look gorgeous in the light of the sun.
