Sellaronda

Ski mountaineering in the Dolomites is usually a demanding enterprise and certainly not for beginners. But the Dolomites offer a ski touring experience with a difference that everyone can enjoy – the famous Sella Ronda, a circular ski route leading round the mighty Sella massif and offering 26 km of downhill trails in a single day. The ascents are no problem – with modern lifts and cableways and the convenience of a Dolomiti Superski ski pass. The experts can even add a few more kilometres to the Sella Ronda (perhaps the demanding Porta Vescovo trail from Arabba). The round trip of the Sella Ronda should be planned properly. It takes a good six hours. So be sure to set off early in the morning. And make sure you get to the last lift in time in the afternoon. The trails are officially closed after 5 p.m. You can ski the Sella Ronda clockwise or anticlockwise. An accurate map is available at the Tourist Offices.

The 1970’s Gardena World
Championship Skiing Tour

This tour can be started from each of the three towns of Val Gardena
(Selva, S. Cristina or Ortisei) – see also ski-map.

Starting in Ortisei you take the Seceda cable-way and get warm by
skiing the 6 km long slope of the ”Südtirol Gardenissima”-race, ending
at the Col Raiser bottom station.

From there we take the underground funicular railway, the ”Val Gardena
Ronda Express
”, which connects the ski areas Sochers/Ciampinoi
and Col Raiser/Seceda and in this way all ski resort in the valley.

From S. Cristina we get on Mont de Sëura and - after a thrilling run - to
Ciampinoi, Plan de Gralba and Piz Setëur in the fabulous skiing arena
between the Sella massif and Sassolungo.

The way to Selva Gardena leads over the giant slalom run on which Karl Schranz became the 1970 World Champion. Dantercepies is the next objective which means the ‘Cir’, so named after the mountain
where the 1970 World Champion, Annerösli Zryd, was crowned. On the route lies the run which has a name that is music to the ears of skiing enthusiasts: the Saslong. In 1970 the Swiss Bernhard Russi was
the champion here. In the afternoon sunshine our tour leads on to Col
Raiser and ends with a 9 kilometre romantic run to Ortisei.
