Welcoming resort with a strong regional flair; romantic villages, superb natural landscapes, breathtaking mountain views, cosy hotels, culinary delicacies and a lot of space for children. What a holiday!
A fairy-tale, unspoilt landscape with small, romantic villages surrounds the ski area between Pelmo and Civetta. The Civetta ski area with the main towns of Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Zoldo and Palafavera is situated in the heart of the Veneto Dolomites and in the South-East of Dolomiti Superski. 25 lifts and 80 km of slopes for skiers of all levels link the three valleys. The ski resort is surrounded by breathtaking nature and mountain scenery. Skiers can enjoy night skiing on a 5 km long slope in Valzoldana. Other ski resorts of the Dolomiti Superski area can be easily reached using the free ski-bus service. Very popular is the "Skitour First World War", which leads to those Dolomites peaks where World War I was fought. Hotels and guest houses are welcoming with all necessary comforts. The excellent cuisine, rich in typical dishes combines with the warm atmosphere into which our guests are welcomed. Families with children are particularly welcome.
In the north of Veneto Region, in a narrow valley, few kilometres south from the Marmolada, there lies Alleghe; closed to the east from the big Monte Civetta (which divides Alleghe from Zoldo) and from a small beautiful lake to the west.
During the last 30 years Alleghe has improved the winter tourism and nowadays it is one of the most famous ski areas in the Dolomites!! It is the smallest village of Europe, which owns a hockey team which plays the National Championship. So respecting the natural resources and the mountains it is born in the year 1982 the CIVETTA SKI AREA that groups together Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Palafavera and Zoldo. The Skiarea offers 80 km. skislopes and the bubble lift takes you from Alleghe on the slopes in 5 minutes. From season 1993/94 Civetta with Alleghe is one of the ski areas of Dolomiti Superski too, and there is a skibus service to Marmolada and of course to Sella Ronda!!
The Ski Civetta area provides cross country enthusiasts with breathtaking itineraries. Quieter skiers will enjoy the unique scenery of nature and in the meantime exercise, whereas health and sports fans will find cross country tracks suitable to skiers of all levels! 30 km. of cross country tracks in all are equally distributed across the ski area main resorts. The most important tracks are set in Selva di Cadore (near the campingsite, a few km far from the village), in Palafavera (near the lifts) and in Zoldo (not far from the village centre). The equipment rental of course is available for those who wish to try a new, peculiar sport.
Zoldo
The historians say that the valley has been occupied from a northern population, because they wanted to take advantage of the mines. In fact the iron carving was one of the first activities that supported the whole economy on those mountains; in particular they shaped nails, and in Zoldo there’s still a museum (Nail Museum) where we can see old nails carved by men during those years and, from 1500, the symbol of the zone is a hammer with a nail. But during the second half XVIII century most of the population went to Venice and found a new job there.
At the end of the century the economy fell down: two big floods destructed laboratories and industrial machines, everything went wrong and people escaped to United States, Argentina or Brasil. Women and little children remained at home, while husbands and young men looked for money around the world. Some people who went to Austria and Germany built the first ice-cream shops and when they understood that it was a good idea, they went on to open more and more ice-cream shops, so that nowadays the valley of Zoldo is famous in Europe for its special ice-cream. The money people made after this fantastic idea, was employed to reform the economy in Zoldo! At the end of the XIX century there were still some explorers, climbers who discovered the Dolomites as a natural uncontaminated heaven. The area bettered year after year and new hotels were built together with new lifts. Today is Zoldo one of the most known valleys and skiareas of Europe.
Selva di Cadore is a small beauty village at 1400 high in the magic Fiorentina Valley, in the heart of the Dolomites. Selva di Cadore is the tipycal tourist location, it owns a lot of natural beauties taht surrounds the village and offer the tourist a lot trekking among the fabulous Dolomites mountains.
During the winter all is done to give evry tourist a lot of fun. Selva di Cadore is part of the biggest ski area in the Veneto Region, which offers 80 Km. of slopes and 25 lifts. The slopes are always good snow covered from December to April and Selva offers also 15 Km. of really funny cross country slopes, for experst but also for people who want to try a new sport! everything there is made to relax and just think to rest from work fatigues!!
