Canazei and Alba di Canazei - Val di Fassa
Surrounded by the most important Dolomite peaks, Canazei is one of the most worldwide famous Alpine resorts. It is a winter paradise both for ski and snowboard fans directly linked to the Sellaronda circuit, that also offers cross-country slopes of all level of difficulty, down in the valley or at an altitude of 2.100 m in the Ciampac ski area.
Many important sport events take place in Canazei such as the Sellaronda Skimarathon (night mountaineering competition) in winter, and the Dolomites Skyrace in summer, a high-level mountain race, but Canazei is well known also for its lively night life.
Val di Fassa also means relaxation and well-being. Along with the wellness centres present in numerous hotels of the valley, the Eghes Wellness Centre is also worth a mention. Located by Canazei swimming pool, it offers a varied programme of regenerating treatments.
The strong tourism development in the 50s changed deeply the aspect of the town, making it an important and modern resort, but the village preserved traces of its original architecture. In July on occasion of "Te anter i tobiè" a three-day wine and food event with music entertainment, the old barns of the town are open to the public to let them discover old crafts and habits.
In the end of August instead, all the Ladin valleys gather together on occasion of the"Gran Festa da d’Istà", a very longed-for event for the local people, who can show their proud of being Ladins and their most beautiful traditional customs and accessories, different from valley to valley.
Sellaronda
The Sella group looks like a huge stoned castle in the heart of the 4 Ladin valleys.
That’s why the Sella Pass is one of the most famous passes in the Dolomites, far only 12 km from Canazei and linking the Val di Fassa to the Val Gardena. From here one can enjoy a unique view, the landscape is dominated by the Sella Towers, the Mesules barrier, and from the Sassolungo group, reaching an altitude of 3.181 m.
The area is perfect to go on a hike or to ski on the Col Rodella slopes, linked to the Belvedere ski area and to the famous Sellaronda ski carousel.
The majestic Sella group, is one of the destinations preferred by hikers who especially love the rise to Piz Boè, 3.152 m., to enjoy the view of some of the most popular Dolomite peaks.
The Città dei Sassi (= Town of Stones), at the foot of the Sassolungo, is a true stone labyrinth, a place especially liked by climbers.
Refuges and hotels on the Sella Pass are cosy and comfortable, the place itself is ideal for those who look for a holiday full of sport and in contact with nature.
