WORLD ALPINE ROCKFEST – Paganella Ski – 22 December 2009

Where champion skiers face off and Placebo plays live

Sport & music, ski & rock: this is the flammable mix that will set the night on fire at Paganella Ski with the World Alpine Rockfest on Tuesday,  22nd  December 2009. Watched by an international television audience and thousands of spectators, sixteen Alpine ski stars will battle through four rounds of Giant Slalom to conquer this unique event. The winner will take home a record prize of € 100,000. EuroSport  has already guaranteed TV coverage as well as local networks around the globe.

The show on Pian Dosson’s Olympic Slope 2 in Andalo, Italy, will be followed by the legendary rock band Placebo performing live. Brian Molko’s band has sold 10 million records and the World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski is the last stop on their world tour featuring Placebo’s new hit album “Battle for the Sun”.

The person who best embodies the spirit of the World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski is Bode Miller, and it’s no surprise that he’s a testimonial for Paganella Ski, the mountain that overlooks the city of Trento in the Italian Dolomite Mountains, titled UNESCO World Heritage Site. The American champion has always matched his skiing skills with a rock star lifestyle and will be one of the Alpine celebrities performing at the Rockfest. Accompanying Bode on the World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski night race are Davide Simoncelli, Ted Ligety, Aksel Lund Svindal, Didier Cuche, Jean-Baptiste Grange, Julien Lizeroux, Mattias Hargin, Felix Neureuther, John Kucera, and Marco Buechel. The name of the twelfth champion will be announced at a press conference held in Soelden, Austria, October 22nd. Each headline Alpine Celebrity can invite two athletes of their personal choice to come and fight through a one run qualifying heat to fill the final four spots of the World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski racing field of sixteen. The final sixteen as well as the qualifying group will be made up of the very best male athletes alpine skiing has to offer. Olympic Champions, World Champions and World Cup Champions will all be on hand for this explosive alpine extravaganza. And they will all be ready to Rock out and party on with the thousands of fans surely to attend.

Bode Miller promises an amazing show: “The event incorporates a wave of new elements: I’ve been saying that skiing should include innovative situations for a number of years now. That is why I was the first to agree to participate in the World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski. Plus the fact that it’s held on the slopes in a stunning and easily accessible area where I train with my American team-mates. So I just know it’s going to be a hit.”

The sixteen male athletes will compete in GS, not dual format but straight time elimination over four rounds. The slowest four will be knocked out after each round until only the top four are left to battle it out for the € 100.000 prize. The event will be packed with breathtaking sights, aggressive racing, intimate atmosphere with the pros and the electrifying Placebo Rock Concert.

World Alpine Rockfest was created by Top Out Sport, Inc, an American company owned and operated by Phil McNichol, former Head Coach of the US Ski Team. Paganella Ski has set up an organizing committee, run by Gianmaria Toscana, in Andalo to arrange the event. The committee includes representatives from businesses in the area and Top Out Sport’s vice-president, Marco Dallapiccola. “The World Alpine Rockfest – Paganella Ski is a fantastic opportunity to promote Paganella Ski, Andalo and the Trentino Region,” said Mr. Toscana. “We’re working with Top Out Sport to accomplish a double goal: to create an unforgettable event and to ensure that our World Alpine Rockfest provides global publicity for all the excellent things we have to offer.

Bode – Hi, Hayden Rhodes here, Placebo’s Assistant Tour Manager and Performance Coach. We are in rehearsals right now (London) and back on the road soon. Your rock fest is the last gig for us before a well deserved break, how can we organize gear / passes for the boy’s / crew involved with our tour. Many of us are keen snow sport enthusiasts but cannot travel with our gear around the world! Let me know & we all look forwards to meeting with you in December.
Kind Regards
