Eight cult pistes and one dedicated to Schumacher

Trentino Region

Skiing at night on a floodlit piste in absolute silence under a starlit sky, perhaps with friends and without disdaining a stop in the refuges to drink a glass of hot tea or mulled wine, is a really thrilling experience. An exciting moment in an unforgettable holiday that you can spend in Trentino’s main winter tourist resorts, normally at no extra cost because the daily or weekly ski pass gives access to the lifts in the evening.

In Val di Sole you can ski at night in Folgarida on the last 400 metres of the black run, approved for various international competitions and the site of the ISF World Championships of Snowboarding in 1999 and other ski and snowboard races like the Trofeo Topolino, and in Marilleva 1400 on the Biancaneve run, with special evenings of music and entertainment on the snow. At Madonna di Campiglio you can try the Canalone Miramonti, a mythical black run used for the World Cup slalom and especially for the 3Tre slalom. In Val di Fassa you can ski under the stars on the Alloch piste at Pozza di Fassa,

a difficult black run used for many international competitions, where the European Cup of special slalom is hosted every year, and at San Martino di Castrozza, where the Col di Verde piste of 2 kilometres and medium difficulty is floodlit. The pistes in Upper Val di Non are also accessible in the evening and more precisely the Nock piste at Ruffrè Mendola and the Ciasazza piste on the Predaia plateau. At Passo Brocon you can try Pista Piloni, the snowpark, the sledge runs and the training slope under the stars every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday during Christmas time (from 19.30 to 22.30)

EIGHT CULT PISTES FOR CHOOSY SKIERS

There are hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of pistes in Trentino set in a varied and particularly attractive environment. Among these there are eight cult pistes of exceptional technical difficulty to be tackled flat out.

First of all the “Canalone Miramonti” in Madonna di Campiglio where the important «3-Tre» is held every two years, the slalom with a capital “S”, with extreme slopes that leave you breathless. Not to be missed the “Ciampac” piste in Alba di Canazei, a very technical and enjoyable run with many changes in gradient, a small paradise completely immersed in a forest right down to the valley. The “Paradiso”piste on Passo del Tonale is a very interesting run on which to test your athletic condition, where there is no question of being bored thanks to the new and fast lift. The “Salizzona” piste on the Altopiano di Folgaria is also a difficult slope and one of the favourites of the Rovereto champion Davide Simoncelli as it is only a few kilometres from his home.

Those who love to draw sweeping dynamic curves in absolute safety and tranquillity should attempt the “Tognola”piste at San Martino di Castrozza The “Tomba” piste, instead, on Ciampedie in Vigo di Fassa requires maximum concentration right from the first serpentines, due to its sudden changes of gradient and almost extreme drop in height.

Definitely exciting is the five kilometre long “Olimpica Due” on Paganella, with its drop in height of one thousand metres and continual changes of direction. Lastly the renewed “Olimpia”piste at Alpe del Cermis which is seven kilometres long, smooth at the beginning and difficult at the end.

AT CAMPIGLIO THE STREIF SCHUMACHER, FORMULA-1 PISTE

The piste that Madonna di Campiglio decided to name after the German champion is called “Streif Schumacher” and was inaugurated by the Ferrari driver during the “Vrooom” in 2006, a traditional meeting dedicated to the world of motors that has been held at the beginning of the year in the Val Rendena centre for the last 16 years.

It is the most difficult piste in this ski district; a technically high standard black piste that best represents the characteristic of the driver. It is the final Canalone of the “Direttissima dello Spinale”, 250 metres long, with a drop in height of 140 metres, an average gradient of 51% and a maximum gradient of 70%. Two years ago some important technical alterations were carried out on the run and it was enlarged.
